Operating globally, thinking locally: Pick n Pay

The success of our magazines, catalogues and branded communications for giant South African retailer Pick n Pay is proof of what a deep understanding of customers and local knowledge can achieve.

John Brown South Africa was formed in 2007 specifically to breathe new life into Pick n Pay's customer communication. We created the bi-monthly Fresh Living magazine, supported by a vibrant 64-page customer catalogue, and monthly staff magazine Pick n Patter.

The results were spectacular.

Pick n Pay upped Fresh Living's frequency to monthly within a mere six months of launch – and it's now the best-selling food magazine in the entire country.

Fresh Living has helped Pick n Pay go from strength to strength, too – along with great results, it’s just been named best international retailer by the USA-based National Retail Federation. But that's not all. 

Pick n Pay love what our work does for them so much we're now exploring ways of taking the Fresh Living brand online.
